English as a Second
Language (ESL)

OBJECTIVE
The
institution’s major goal in the creation of its ESL program is
to provide students an opportunity to gain the language skills
necessary to become successful members of the American
workforce.
PROGRAM
LENGTH
The ESL program is divided into
three tracks. New class sessions begin approximately every 4-5
weeks. There are 6 levels, Level One for beginning students
through Level Six for advanced students.
The Daytime track is the
equivalent of 36 semester credit hours (720 clock hours). The
Daytime track is conducted Monday-Friday for 5 hours a day from
8:30am to 1:30pm, for a total of 25 hours per week. There are 48
daytime sessions per level. A three-level ESL Daytime Program
runs for approximately 30 weeks.
There are two evening tracks. The Evening tracks are the equivalent of 30
semester credit hours (600 clock hours). The Evening Program is
conducted Monday-Thursday for 4.5 hours a day from 5:30pm to
10pm, for a total of 18 hours per week. There are 45 evening
sessions per level. A three-level ESL Evening Program runs for
approximately 34 weeks.
Upon the successful completion of
the 3-level program, and satisfaction of all academic & administrative
requirements, the student will graduate and receive a
certificate.
ENTRANCE
REQUIREMENTS & CLASS SIZE
To be admitted, applicants must be
high school graduates or equivalent. Placement test determines initial student placement within the
program. Incoming students are properly placed at a level
consistent with their language skills. Class size is limited to
30 students.
